NEW study HOT off the press! First study looking at the emotional responses to weight-related terminology used by HCPs. Sadness & anger were the most common emotional responses. "Weight" caused least negative feelings 1/6 #supportnotstigma@DrStuartFlint https://t.co/Hc9MzDdP4M
A case-control study from my PhD! 📖 Mothers who received nutritional advice after #bariatricsurgery were significantly less likely to have a small baby 🍎 Low gestational weight gain is a risk factor for #SGA 🧸 @NHeslehurst@CeulemansDries Full paper: https://t.co/h3A2dfEhot
thiamine deficiency is also a concern. there may be association with low birth weights for pt's who have had bariatric surgery. pt's should always have their "dream tema" of nutritionists, bariatricians, and OBGYN's watching over them in pregnancy #obsm
@Mpmok@AbdTahrani@BevTchangMD@farahhusainMD@PSchauerMD@ZaherToumi@sallyabbottRD@BrownAdey We use a standard dose of 800 micrograms of betacaroteen daily and don't see many deficiencies. A prospective cohort with data on micronutrient levels, using a standardized multivitamin is being prepared. Narrative review with guidance for clinicians is under review!

Wrap-up and prizes by R Devlieger! Congrats to all winners, such as @kayleyscott4! Two excellent days in Amsterdam: met a lot of new researchers, learned a lot of new things. Looking forward to come back to #hottopic in two years! #BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
T Lely gives the final talk of the conference. PE still a major preventable cause of death. Predictive tools are needed. sFlt/PlGF is a possible predictor of preterm delivery in PE, but less useful for population screening. Prognosis vs diagnosis.
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
T Roseboom with an excellent talk on first 1000 days. Clear explanation on how transgenerational effects of environment come to be. A good start in life is important. Longterm outcomes should not be ignored/forgot. Malnutrition is a worldwide issue.
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
@DrLauraGaudet Indeed! In #Belgium >50% of adults has a BMI >25. We have to be able to select patients who benefit from closer follow-up, without stigma, to keep the system sustainable from a financial and social perspective.
L Myatt: mitochondrial respiration is compromised by increasing adiposity. Effects for mother and child?
Also: using the placenta of your own children for research purposes is a predictor for them aiming for a carreer in science in later life 😂
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
@DrLauraGaudet next up! Pregnancies in women with #obesity and no other risk factors have a 70% risk reduction for PE when compared to "high-risk" obesity, which could aid clinicians in providing more focussed care.
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
W Gyselaers: in third trimester in women with #obesity circulatory changes make women more vulnerable to hypertensive disorders
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
Next up: P Patanapirunhakit shows us that protein composition of HDL is different in #pregnancy with pre-eclampsia, possibly changing the protective role of HDL on vascular function.
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
T den Harink: preconception lifestyle intervention might improve cardiac structure and function in children born to women with obesity
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
Second day of #BiochemEvent. #pregnancy as a fitness test by C de Groot: pre-eclampsia is a predictor for cardiovascular risk in later life. Opportunity for interventions, but consensus for follow-up is lacking. Children born after PE are also at risk
@WorldObesity#barker
Dilys Freeman closes the first day of #hottopicsconference. Placental fat is higher in pre-eclampsia. Correlates with earlier talk bij Antonio Vindal-Puig on adipose tisseu expansion.
#BiochemEvent@WorldObesity
Lesly Vejar from @WorldObesity underlines the importance of ongoing research into obesity and improving care for pregnant women with obesity. Patients are not responsible for having #obesity and should not be the victim of #Stigma#BiochemEvent@obsmuk
