The controversy intensified following Episode 11’s coronation scene, where Grand Prince Lee An appeared wearing the “Goryu Myeonryugwan” while subjects shouted “Cheonse.” Critics pointed out that both the ceremonial attire and terminology are historically linked to vassal states under imperial China, sparking accusations that the drama distorted Korean royal history.

As criticism mounted, the production team first muted the controversial audio and modified subtitles across reruns, VOD, and OTT platforms before eventually deleting the coronation scene entirely. Lead stars IU and Byun Woo-seok posted handwritten apology letters, while director Park Joon-hwa and writer Yoo Ji-won publicly admitted oversight and apologized for the controversy.

However, public outrage continues to grow.
