Our final #SOMC24 lecture of the day from Brad Amos on polarisation and interference in optical imaging; featuring gemstones, prisms and dilute milk
💎🌈🐄
It’s Day 2 of lectures at #SOMC24 and we start off the morning with @R_M_Edkins (@StrathChem) teaching the fundamentals of fluorescence, dyes and probes. 🌟✨✴️
It’s the first full day of #SOMC24!
We have three lectures from Brad Amos today - the first covering the use of light in the optical microscope.
We’ll have two more lectures and a practical session led by Brad today.
✨🔬
We are looking forward to welcoming students back to @SIPBS_Strath this morning for the first full day of #SOMC24. Legendary lectures by Brad Amos and practical sessions kindly supported by industry sponsors, it's going to be a fun (if dreich ☔) day!
Huge congratulations to the #SOMC24 poster winners!
🥇1st prize to @KesKeseno (@EdinburghUni)
🥈2nd prize to Marc Schönholzer (@KispiZuerich)
Well done to all our delegates on a great selection of posters to kick off the course. Thanks to @ScientificAlba for sponsoring!

Good news! 🎉
Thanks to @SULSAtweets for awarding me their ECR Development Prize!
This will fund a research visit to @Columbia soon. Excited to work with @laahrs & investigate the chemical microenvironment of biofilm transport channels + some followup work at @UniStrathclyde.
Big welcome to new PhD students, @kay_polland & @mollliebrown, who started this week @PhysicsStrath.
Kay will be developing new endoscopic imaging methods for clinical interventions.
Mollie will be investigating membrane dynamics using 3D super-resolution imaging methods.
New @BiofilmJournal publication by @BeatriceBottura, @lmr_1994, @PaulHoskisson, and @gailmcconnell describes how intra-colony channel morphology in Escherichia coli biofilms is governed by nutrient availability and substrate stiffness

@CellJeffe @adam_k_glaser I agree.
We've done something similar. In work relating to https://t.co/lEEI9tlSzB we used an interference filter to reflect fluorescence and transmit laser illumination (& vice versa). When the lens specimen was in either air or 4% BSA the filter performed as per the spec.
Job opportunity! Fancy working with a worldwide group of microscopists with @QuarepLimi and @bioImaging_NCL? We're recruiting, can be on site or remote post https://t.co/Iw868S4eRT
