IOY Finalist Joan Grimes: Use themes in your course to build a sense of community and engagement with your students. Course theme for general psychology - Mission: Possible. Students are secret agents and given assignments to complete their missions, which align with outcomes.

Advice for a new online instructor from an IOY finalist: Put yourself in the course. Be a presence, and don't lose yourself. Bring your essence and presence in the the classroom to the online setting.
