The College Gridiron Showcase is a 5-day event for ALL College FB Divisions, providing exposure & education for top seniors from around the country.

Since 2015, we have prided ourselves on giving opportunity to players from all types of programs. As rosters were announced this week, 81 CGS players are currently on NFL rosters, many from small programs that just needed a shot!

From a scouting perspective, Max Starks was a massive, long-framed offensive lineman at Florida whose size, length, strength and versatility gave him a clear NFL projection. At roughly 6-foot-7, 350 pounds with 35½-inch arms, Starks used his frame well in both the run game and pass protection

At @GatorsFB, he played in 43 games with 36 starts, seeing time at right tackle, left tackle and right guard. His versatility, football intelligence and ability to handle multiple assignments stood out, and he earned First-Team All-SEC honors from the conference coaches in 2003

In the run game, Starks could use his mass and functional power to cover defenders up, create movement and control blocks once engaged. In pass protection, his length, strong anchor and ability to use positioning helped compensate for average foot quickness. He wasn’t an elite testing athlete, but he showed functional movement skills for a 350-pound tackle and understood how to maximize his physical tools

The @steelers selected Starks 75th overall in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft, and his traits translated into a long, productive career. He became a dependable starter at both tackle spots, starting at right tackle during Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XL championship and left tackle during its Super Bowl XLIII championship

Starks finished his career with 125 games played and 96 starts, becoming a two-time Super Bowl champion

Starks showed how rare size, length, functional strength, anchor and positional versatility can translate into sustained success at offensive tackle

From a scouting perspective, Jason Smith was one of the most athletic offensive tackle prospects in the 2009 NFL Draft

He arrived at @BUFootball as a tight end before transitioning to offensive tackle, eventually making 30 starts at tackle and developing into a consensus All-American and first-team All-Big 12 selection

Smith stood out for his quick feet, lateral movement, recovery ability and athleticism in space. His tight end background showed when climbing to linebackers, adjusting to moving targets and working outside the tackle box. In pass protection, he had the movement skills to mirror speed rushers, while his size, strength and physical temperament gave him upside as a run blocker. He was still developing technically, but scouts were drawn to his athletic ceiling and rapid progression at the position

The @RamsNFL selected Smith No. 2 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft, showing just how highly NFL evaluators valued his athleticism, movement skills and developmental upside. He went on to play in 45 NFL games with 26 starts, primarily at right tackle, where his size, strength and ability to move in space translated to the professional level

Smith has since moved into coaching. After working at @MeanGreenFB and @ACUFootball, where he coached tight ends and running backs, he was hired by @GamecockFB in January 2026 as an assistant offensive line coach

The 2027 College Gridiron Showcase Internship Program gives aspiring football professionals an opportunity to experience the industry from the inside while working alongside scouts, personnel executives, coaches and other professionals throughout CGS event week

This isn’t about standing on the sideline and watching. Interns are given real responsibilities, hands-on experience and opportunities to learn how a professional football event operates from evaluation and scouting to personnel, operations and networking.

Our goal is simple: give people who want a career in football an opportunity to learn, contribute, build relationships and grow.

‼️We’ve also had former participants use their CGSU experience and connections as another step toward earning opportunities and jobs in professional football!

Both players came through CGS, competed, handled their opportunity the right way and continued working after the event. Now they’ve earned a place on an NFL 53 man roster

For us at the College Gridiron Showcase, there’s nothing better than watching players we believed in continue to take steps forward in their careers. We’re incredibly happy for Channing and Malcolm, their families and everyone who has helped them along the way!

It also deserves to be said: our CGS scouting team does an outstanding job every year

Building a CGS roster isn’t about collecting the biggest names. Our scouts spend countless hours evaluating players from every level of college football, studying film, identifying traits, finding overlooked talent and putting together a roster of prospects we believe deserve an opportunity in front of professional scouts

When players from those rosters go on to earn NFL opportunities, it’s another reminder of the work being done behind the scenes

Proud of Channing. Proud of Malcolm. And proud of our entire CGS scouting staff for continuing to identify talent and build a strong roster year after year
