@EricLDaugh I think it should be more of a direction to them so that if for any reason they don't find her gvilty if mvrder, they can convict her on manslavghter. So they don't acquit because the prosecutor doesn't prove the original charge beyond reasonable doubt.

I don't know how it works over there or what inspired in the court but here in Nigeria, judges can find a defendant guilty of a less offence than what s/he is charged with if the prosecutor doesn't prove the original charge beyond reasonable doubt.

It depends on the prosecution to proved the original charge. I could be wrong but I think it's what happened here. It should be more of a direction to the jury that if for any reason they don't find her guilty of mvrder, they can still get her on manslavghter
