It is astonishing and deeply troubling that doctors are expected to function in such a threatening and hostile environment. To Maryam Nawaz, a mobile phone may be nothing more than a device for casual chit-chat or watching Instagram videos of a lavish family wedding of her son. But for a doctor on duty, a mobile phone is not just an entertainment: it is an essential medical tool.

In modern healthcare:

- Doctors rely on mobile internet access to consult up-to-date medical guidelines, drug databases, clinical calculators, and evidence-based resources that directly affect real-time patient care.

- Doctors use mobile phones to immediately contact senior doctors, consultants, and specialists during emergencies. In critical situations, even minutes of delay can mean the difference between life and death.

If the government intends to ban mobile phone use in hospitals, it is morally and professionally obligated to provide effective and practical alternatives, such as hospital-issued smartphones, iPads, pagers, or secure internal communication systems. Enforcing a blanket ban without providing functional substitutes is reckless and places patients at serious risk.

Even more alarming is the culture of intimidation, monitoring doctors through secret surveillance and threats. This creates fear, not discipline. It undermines professional autonomy, damages morale, and ultimately compromises patient safety. Such tactics reflect an authoritarian and fascist mindset rather than informed leadership. This approach exposes a complete lack of understanding of how medical communication functions in the modern era. Policymaking driven by ignorance and control, instead of evidence and system-building, does not reform healthcare: it destroys it.
