[💬] Director Yoo In-sik shared his thoughts on the casting process and acting abilities of Cha Eunwoo
In an interview with Herald Muse, he commented on casting Cha Eunwoo:
“It was the standard choice. The image we wanted for ‘Lee Unjeong’ was mysterious and somewhat fairy-tale-like — an image untouched by the stains of the world. When he’s completely secluded, it also sparks curiosity. We needed that kind of vibe, and the offer worked out perfectly.”
He also praised Cha Eunwoo’s performance, saying:
“There’s a scene in the latter half where he sheds tears because of his own trauma, and the emotion came out all at once better than I expected. That’s a fond memory.”
Before the official release, journalists who attended the pre-screening gave high praise to Cha Eunwoo’s acting. When asked about the positive reactions to how well he embodied such a striking character, Director Yoo replied:
“I think it’s a very welcome thing. In the end, there comes a moment when only the director and the actor remain. There’s a limit to how much direction you can give, and at some point you have to trust the actor. For this role, I talked a lot about the warrior aspect. The rest of the specific expressions were something the actor had to find for himself — and then I just applaud. Cha Eunwoo asked a lot of questions and we had many conversations. We discussed a lot already from the casting stage.”

— Cha Eunwoo as Lee Unjeong
About the Character:
At first glance, Unjeong is the stereotypical civil servant: quiet, reserved, and rule-abiding. But behind his straitlaced demeanor is a telekinetic superpower. With a mysterious connection to Haeseong City, anytime Unjeong is not at work, he’s on a mission to find a person from his past so he can finally escape his traumatic history and find his birth mother. He’s a lone wolf who’s always intended to operate alone until Chaeni and her friends unwittingly force him to join their cause.

Cha Eunwoo fully paid the taxes notified by the National Tax Service. Some interpreted this as an admission of tax evasion, but that conclusion is not supported by how the tax system works. In practice, taxpayers may pay first to prevent additional penalties while continuing to dispute the assessment through legal procedures. Full payment does not equal admission of wrongdoing.
A key fact is that the 40% penalty for fraudulent under-reporting was not applied. Instead, a 10% general under-reporting penalty was used, which applies to administrative issues or differences in legal interpretation, not intentional tax evasion. Penalties are calculated through a combination of reporting penalties and late payment interest, not a single fixed rate. Claims equating the total to a “40% fraud penalty” misunderstand this structure.
The issue centers on tax classification. Income initially reported under a corporate structure was later reclassified as personal income, which carries a higher tax rate and explains most of the additional amount. As a result, the final confirmed additional tax is approximately 13 billion won, not 20 billion, since the higher figure ignores the refund of previously paid taxes and misrepresents the actual net burden.
Claims of “delayed payment” are misleading because taxes can only be paid after an official notice is issued with a confirmed amount, and paying immediately after receiving that notice is standard procedure. Tax disputes also involve multiple stages, and taxpayers have the right to challenge assessments through review and appeal processes. Paying upon notification is often a strategic decision to stop further penalties while continuing legal action, and further appeals remain possible in this case.
A major misunderstanding is the assumption that a large number automatically implies a crime. The 13 billion won reflects a tax rate difference caused by reclassification, not concealed income, and the absence of the 40% fraud penalty confirms that this is not a case of intentional tax evasion. The “20 billion tax evasion” narrative is misleading because it excludes the refund process and lacks proper context.
• There was no intentional concealment of taxes, and the fraud penalty was not applied.
• Payment was made immediately after the official notice, following standard procedure.
• The final additional tax is approximately 13 billion won after adjustments, not 20 billion.
#CHAEUNWOO fulfilled his obligations within the legal framework and exercised his rights through legitimate procedures.

<The Wonderfools>: A retro-futuristic superpower adventure of neighborhood misfits
A comic action-adventure featuring superpowers set against the backdrop of the turn of the millennium. This project, which piqued curiosity with its very description, is the Netflix series <The Wonderfools>, set to be released on May 15. It is a highly anticipated work blooming from the fertile ground of Korean-style superpower action.
The story begins when a group of "neighborhood misfits"—each possessing unique abilities like teleportation, telekinesis, sticking powers, or super strength, yet lacking in other areas—unite to face a villain.
Above all, the striking pairing of Park Eunbin and Cha Eunwoo, joined by powerhouse actors Choi Daehoon and Im Seongjae, adds significant depth to the series.
