Today is Chagos Social Media day and we want to highlight and #SupportChagossians by telling you their story.
We covered the history of the Chagos Islands in one of our episodes, and the following thread explains what Chagossians are still up against.

The population of Chagos was evicted from their homeland by the Colonial British Government, thrown into a life of poverty and are still being denied the right to return home. Total breach of #HumanRights. Justice must be done. #SupportChagossians#SupportChagossiansForTheFuture
Great place to start to learn more about the Chagossian exile and their struggle to return. Recent history is missing but it tells the story of the expulsion powerfully and the US and UK officials who callously orchestrated it. Time to #SupportChagossians

We must #SupportChagossians but we can also Support @chagosisland National Football Team!
Their amazing work does so much for community - even with unfair immigration law penalising their players.

@johnpilger's "Stealing a Nation" tells the story of the Chagossian's expulsion from their native archipelago. This is but one of countless stories of the loss and generational trauma wrought by western imperialism. #LetUsReturn#SupportChagossians https://t.co/xnnaTpNjJT
https://t.co/6IHotFHfxA Timely reminder that the UK remains in breach of an Int'l Court of Justice ruling against them. The UK's outlaw policy prevents the Chagos Islands' rightful inhabitants from returning home. @ChagosUK#SupportChagossians#SupportChagossiansForTheFuture
After 55 years of exile, Chagossians must be given the right of return to resettle on their homeland (on the Covid Green List!) This can only happen when the UK government chooses to respect international law and ceases its illegal occupation over the islands. #Chagos
Hello Chagossian supporters! Today is Chagossian Social Media Day. Please spread the Chagossian message to as many people as possible and encourage more people to join the Chagossian struggle. It is time for justice for Chagossians! #SupportChagossians
The UK Government have had ample opportunity to right the wrong inflicted on the Chagossian diaspora and they still refuse to accept responsibility

The UK government receives an undisclosed portion of the proceeds from the sale of “.io”, which, according to the complaint, is part of the ongoing colonial expropriation of economic property and livelihoods of former islanders
Sales of the ‘.io’ domain name are being contested as a part of a complaint filed by Chagossian representatives.
The domain name was acquired on the open market in the late 1990s by a U. K.-based firm, https://t.co/qXvkQ28dUP
Internet Computer Bureau (ICB). The U. K. government receives an undisclosed share of revenue from sales of .io, in what the complaint claims is part of its ongoing colonial expropriation of the economic property and livelihood of the former islanders.
