I consumed various topics but I also made a decision to read Black Reconstruction in America over the course of a year, which has been on my to read list for a while. I talk more about global warming, the read-a-long and Glass Onion https://t.co/cWhO06oYXN
Consistency and enjoying the process. This week I watched and read some interesting things. Always trying to challenge my thinking. Especially enjoyed the @WNBA playoffs. Read at https://t.co/aSzXv1MrCA
The past week, I’ve consumed some interesting things that made me think and also sparked my interest for further reading. See my thoughts at https://t.co/K8oDtaKzVC
I had a pretty good reading month in February. But my favorite book was How the Word is Passed. Heartbreaking but beautifully written. I recommend to everyone.
Watched The Crime of the Century documentary on @hbomax. It’s a good companion to Empire of Pain. The documentary focused more on the systems and policies that allowed the abuse to grow and continue than the book did which was a complaint I had.
4/it very much read like an exposé so I understand why it’s a best seller. In an age where we love crime documentaries, this very much had some of the same elements
I thought this was a good video. If you are a Christian, I highly recommend. Remember at the end of the day, these are real peoples lives that are being impacted.
I think this is something that has been in the back of my mind especially after finishing #LincolnsDilemma and finishing my reads of Never Caught and How the Word is Passed.
If Black elders who suffered Jim Crow are still w/us, & Native elders who were stripped of their land & rights are still w/us, & Japanese elders who were forced into Camps are still w/us—why do we pretend the people & systems who committed those atrocities are magically gone?🤔
After talking to my grandma I realized slavery is only 4 or 5 generations removed and Jim Crow was basically yesterday. How the Word is Passed def made me want to make sure I get my grandparents life story before I have regrets of not asking questions.
