Dear BJP Fools,

Obviously, we did not expect any better from liars like you. Here's the truth about oil bond payments and taxes on petroleum products.

When the NDA came to power in 2014, the pending liabilities on oil bonds stood at Rs. 1,34,423 crore, along with interest payments of Rs. 9,989 crore per year, according to data from Annexure 6E of the receipt budget 2014-15 titled 'Special Securities Issued To Oil Marketing Companies In Lieu Of Cash Subsidy'.

The only oil bonds due for maturity during the 2014-19 term were the two sets of bonds which matured in 2015, amounting to Rs 3,500 crore. After repaying Rs 3,500 crore, in 2018, the pending principal liabilities stood at Rs 1,30,923 crore.

Of the Rs 1.3 lakh crore due for repayment by 2025-26, Rs 31,150 crore is in 2023-24, Rs 52,860 crore in 2024-25, and Rs 36,913 crore in 2025-26. But this is less than 1/10th of the current central excise duty on petroleum products, which stands above a whopping Rs 3 lakh Cr. So NO, The NDA Govt. has NOT PAID OFF the oil bond liabilities with the increased taxes as of today.

In 2014-15, when the NDA came to power, the central excise duty collected was Rs. 29,279 crore on petrol and Rs. 42,881 crore on diesel, as per Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur in his response in the Lok Sabha on March 22, 2021. In the FY2023-24, earnings from Central excise duties are estimated at Rs 3,03,600 Cr, according to the latest Budget presented by Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Central Excise Duty was increased from Rs. 9.2 in 2013-14 to Rs. 32.9 per litre in 2021 for petrol and from Rs. 3.46 to Rs. 31.8 per litre for diesel, which were later cut to Rs 19.9 and Rs 15.8 on petrol and diesel respectively in the run-up to state elections. The government in UP obviously has it cheaper because they get the major share of taxes by devolution in the country. For every one rupee of tax paid to the Central Government, UP gets back Rs. 2.73 while Telangana only gets back 40 paise. We are happy that taxes being generated in Telangana are used to help out other states so never make such a comparison again.

The BRS-led Telangana state government had not increased the VAT on petrol and diesel for the last 8 years when it was in power in Telangana. However, we continue to lose out as the taxes on petroleum product are now conveniently increased as a cess, 100% of which goes to the Central Government.

It is high time the BJP tells the people the actual truth behind the skyrocketing fuel prices in the country and to whose benefit the prices are being kept at an all-time high instead of crying on opposition parties and throwing the blame around.

Be responsible. You have been in power for almost a decade now! If not responsible, at least be truthful.
