WASHINGTON- Ambassador (ret.) Atul Keshap, President, U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC), released the following statement calling on both governments to intensify their efforts to conclude a trade agreement.
“The United States and India have achieved truly historic milestones over the last two decades. Finalizing a Reciprocal Agreement on Trade before year’s end would be their greatest accomplishment yet.
“We call on both governments to use this opportunity to conclude an agreement that lowers trade barriers, and minimizes tariffs. A historic agreement would encapsulate this year’s hard-won progress providing greater certainty to an incredibly consequential economic and strategic bilateral partnnership.
“Unlocking reciprocal trade will build on 2026’s record investments and secure a win for American and Indian business that delivers immediate benefits to working families by boosting manufacturing, opening vast new consumer markets, and cementing both nations as global leaders in AI.
“U.S.-India Business Council members are steadfast champions of this partnership. We look forward to working with both governments to accelerate collaboration between the world’s largest economy and its fastest-growing major economy.”

Strengthening the Kenya-U.S. Digital and Economic Partnership 🇰🇪🇺🇸
Pleasure hosting a high-level business delegation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center, who paid a courtesy call to my office today. Led by the Center’s President, @KLGaither , the delegation brought together senior corporate executives to discuss deepening trade, expanding digital investments, and fostering market-driven innovation in Kenya.
As the digital economy continues to serve as a central pillar of our economic growth, we explored key areas ripe for robust public-private collaboration, including:
* Digital Infrastructure & Connectivity: Exploring opportunities to strengthen broadband connectivity, digital infrastructure, and the enabling policy and regulatory environment to support investment and regional digital growth.
* Global Health Operations: Discussions with Ekrem Sarper, Head of International Public Policy at Cigna Healthcare, on leveraging Nairobi as a strategic East African hub for global health operations.
* Financial Inclusion & Payments: Engaging with Federica Piazza, Director of Government Affairs, EMEA at American Express, on strengthening financial infrastructure and expanding opportunities for digital financial services in partnership with local institutions.
* Healthcare Tech Innovation: Insights from Queenter Owuonda, Government Affairs & Market Development Manager, Eastern Africa, representing Siemens Healthineers, on the intersection of healthcare, technology and digital development.
We also discussed supporting Africa’s ambitious artificial intelligence agenda, with a focus on data governance, responsible AI adoption, digital skills, and policy environments that encourage sustainable technology investment and secure cyber ecosystems, supported by Ellington Arnold, Manager, U.S.-Africa Business Center.
I look forward to continuing these vital strategic dialogues tomorrow as we participate in the AmCham Business Summit. Kenya remains fully committed to maintaining a transparent, predictable and competitive business environment that anchors global investor confidence and positions the country as a leading digital and investment hub in Africa.
