At the trade deadline this season, Carolina opted to move Mikko Rantanen as it was clear he wasn't going to re-sign the final rumoured offer of $13m. They moved him to Dallas for a package of:
— Logan Stankoven
— a conditional 2026 1st round pick
— a 2026 3rd round pick
— a 2027 3rd round pick
— a conditional 2028 1st round pick
By the offseason and with the extra draft capital, they felt comfortable moving on from their own 2026 first round pick in a package for K'Andre Miller.
Later on in the offseason, with help from the extra cash via not signing Rantanen, they picked up the best available UFA, Nikolaj Ehlers.
So, more or less, the Carolina Hurricanes traded:
— Mikko Rantanen
— Scott Morrow
— 2026 2nd round pick
For
— Logan Stankoven (signed 8 seasons)
— K'Andre Miller (signed 8 seasons)
— Nikolaj Ehlers (signed 6 seasons)
— 2026 3rd round pick
— 2027 3rd round pick
— 2028 1st round pick
Not a bad haul.
