A tragic incident unfolded at a Brazil zoo on 30 Nov 2025, where a 19-year-old man with a history of schizophrenia was mauled to death after scaling security barriers to enter a lioness enclosure. Zoo officials state the animal acted on instinct and will not be euthanized.

Meet Sophia, a 22-year-old, geriatric horse.

In December 2025, at the first-ever independent exam of NYC's carriage horses, Dr. Kraig Kulikowski found her unfit for work. She was found to be in pain, with apparent leg issues.

Seven months later, Sophia was spotted limping in Central Park, barely able to walk, her horseshoe falling off. A witness had to step in and demand the driver pull over. She was pulling a carriage full of passengers, creating an incredibly dangerous situation. She could have collapsed, seriously injuring herself, the passengers, the driver, and others in Central Park.

We fear Sophia is still being worked in this condition. That's not acceptable.

So we're making a direct plea to her owner: retire Sophia. A sanctuary is ready and waiting for her, and we are prepared to help cover the costs. She's given enough. She deserves to rest.
