Is anyone else bothered by the stereotypes in Dar e Najat? Why is the “bad” or morally lost woman always the modern, english speaking girl in western clothes who needs to be fixed? And inevitably, a man will help transform her, she’ll learn her lessons, the shalwar kameez will appear and suddenly she’s a better person. Why can’t we show women with more complexity? A woman can wear jeans, speak english and still have values, faith, ambition and respect for religion. Not every drama needs to become a preaching point…On the other hand, I’m loving Aap Ki Izzat. Urwa and Ahsan are both so good. There’s so much more nuance in watching a woman who was deeply in love slowly change under the weight of betrayal and disrespect. Captivating story line.
