Why is that controversial to say?

Someone who regularly feeds the homeless is better for the homeless than me, I don't feed the homeless very often

Someone who donates 50% of their salary to help starving children in a poor village is better for starving children than me, I don't donate that much money

Someone who refuses to pay cruel, abusive industries to breed, mutilate and kill animals is better for animals than someone who pays for it

You probably consider yourself to be an animal lover, or at least believe you're against animal cruelty

But if you aren't vegan you're directly paying for animal cruelty every day
