May 12, ‘19: 1st Sunday in Colombo churches. I had been covering the Easter Sunday attacks from the time it happened and that day this little girl’s presence brought in a a glimmer of hope. I can’t imagine the grief the families have gone through, may they all find peace one day.

Seven dogs stolen from their owners have gone viral after escaping from an illegal transport truck and making their way home.

She planned to record her mom’s reaction to seeing her first grandchild... But instead, her mom walked right past the bassinet and came straight to her - HER first baby. Before even looking at her grandson, she gently asked how her daughter was feeling, if she was in pain, if she needed anything. And in that moment, she realized: No matter how old she gets, she’ll always be her mom’s baby first. ❤️

Some times our people are strange! They’d show compassion to a sick elephant to chant pirith to wish it good health. But see an abandoned baby shivering under a tree, won’t pick it up even after police arrives! Even the police officer wouldn’t pick it, and asked the wmen to do it

In ancient Greece, women were forbidden to study medicine for several years until someone broke the law. Born in 300 BC, Agnodice cut her hair and entered Alexandria medical school dressed as a man. While walking the streets of Athens after completing her medical education, she heard the cries of a woman in labour. However, the woman did not want Agnodice to touch her although she was in severe pain, because she thought Agnodice was a man. Agnodice proved that she was a woman by removing her clothes without anyone seeing and helped the woman deliver her baby.

The story would soon spread among the women and all the women who were sick began to go to Agnodice. The male doctors grew envious and accused Agnodice, whom they thought was male, of seducing female patients. At her trial, Agnodice, stood before the court and proved that she was a woman but this time, she was sentenced to death for studying medicine and practicing medicine as a woman.

Women revolted at the sentence, especially the wives of the judges who had given the death penalty. Some said that if Agnodice was killed, they would go to their deaths with her. Unable to withstand the pressures of their wives and other women, the judges lifted Agnodice's sentence, and from then on, women were allowed to practice medicine, provided they only looked after women.

Thus, Agnodice made her mark in history as the first Greek female doctor, physician and gynecologist. This plaque depicting Agnodice at work was excavated at Ostia, Italy.

@PickMeLK today a food delivery which initially promised a delivery within 30 minutes took 1hr 45 minutes to deliver. rider was required to deliver another food package from my location. If that is the case, you need to give a realistic eta. I would have decided different!

Prasanna Ranaweera got re-elected to parliament from the Gampaha district in 2020 with over 80,000 votes after attacking police personnel inside the parliament chamber with chillie powder, slapping a policeman & causing damage to public property. Only voters can stop the likes of him as law enforcement won’t touch him& in this case it’s likely the porter involved will get interdicted instead.

@r_evarts @ChandaniKirinde Ya that’s coz we Lankan rupee is weak and locals can’t afford if it’s a high amount in LKR. And we’ve already paid for maintenance of the place via indirect and direct taxes to govt. So it can be low for us, who keep paying taxes on everything.
