It's actually a really simple argument, David. Illegal aliens can't commit crimes in the U.S. if they aren't released into the U.S. I know that goes against what you advocate for at Cato, which is literal open borders, but perhaps one day you will understand the frustration for families when their loved ones are killed or harmed by somebody who should have never been in the country.
Yes, US citizens of course commit horrible crimes too. Nobody disputes that. I'm not even saying aliens commit more crimes than Americans.
I'm saying Angel families don't want to hear "Americans kill too!!!". They want to know why someone in violation of our nation's laws, which were passed on a bipartisan basis decades ago, is still in the country, and sometimes released over and over and protected by sanctuary laws.
Had laws been enforced, their loved one wouldn't have ever come in contact with the aliens who harmed them. It's that simple.
Favreau doesn’t worry about his son; he has the resources to wrap his child in layers of security that you couldn’t even imagine for yours. He doesn’t have to worry about illegal immigrants because he is completely insulated from their effects. He has the luxury of having luxury beliefs regarding illegal migration because, for the moment, he can pretend they’re the good guys, and your daughter was just a colonizer who deserved it.
Thankfully Liam is alive and this situation is temporary. Hopefully he will soon start kindergarten in his home country.
Liam’s fate was determined his parents; Katie’s fate was determined by a government that failed to protect its own citizens. The tradeoffs must be acknowledged.
.@jonfavs, I know exactly what it feels like when your daughter goes off to a university to visit friends and NEVER comes home.
My daughter Katie was killed by an illegal immigrant who was incentivized and protected by policies that failed her at every stop, by Illinois and by the Biden administration.
So when I hear selective appeals to compassion, I have to ask: where was the compassion for Katie? Where is it for her family?
Katie is in a grave. I'll never see her again. Why?
Compassion cannot mean caring deeply about one person while ignoring the innocent people who paid the price for the policies being defended.
Selective compassion isn't compassion. It's ideology wearing a compassionate face.
An Alabama jury just ordered The New York Times to pay $9.25 million to former University of Alabama basketball player Kai Spears after the paper falsely identified him as being at the scene of a fatal shooting.
Spears was an 18-year-old freshman walk-on when a 2023 Times report linked him to a January 2023 shooting that killed 23-year-old Jamea Harris. The reporter relied on a single anonymous source. The Times corrected the story months later — after Spears filed his defamation lawsuit.
The paper hadn't lost a defamation case brought in the United States over one of its articles in more than 50 years.
@carlosgvizcaino One of the most overrated songs in rock history. The Stones have a lot of awesome songs. Notwithstanding the sales, this is not one of them.
