Mopani District Mourns the Passing of a “Towering Giant,” Hosi Dr. N’wamitwa II
The Mopani District is in mourning following the recent passing of Senior Traditional Leader, Hosi Dr. N’wamitwa II. Hosi Dr. N’wamitwa II passed away on Monday, 9 February 2026 at the age of 85.
Executive Mayor Councillor Pule Shayi issued a statement on 10 February 2026, expressing profound shock and extending heartfelt condolences to the Valoyi community and the wider district.
Mayor Shayi described the late leader as a “towering giant,” praising her “passion and steadfast service” which he said would be long remembered. He highlighted her dual legacy as both a pillar of her community and a symbol of broader social change.
“She will forever remain a potent symbol of resistance, and an inspiration in the continuing broader struggle for gender equality and women emancipation,” the Mayor stated.
The message applauded Hosi N’wamitwa II’s immense contribution to community development and shaping its future.
Mayor Shayi concluded by expressing condolences “on behalf of the people of Mopani” to the Valoyi Community and the royal family, referring to the late Hosi as “our dearly beloved mother.”
