This is from an event in a museum a few years ago. It was an evening event but I believe young people were present. Is it art or explicit? Provocative or pornographic? More importantly should Eve put her kit back on too?
@TedTalksDrag Daddy knows best 😉 It feels like technology has given opportunity to connect yet has been hacked by the attention economy takes so much more... And lazy ableism says: "disabled people can use their phones now instead". We are all equal in our acceptance of diminished connection
We live in a culture that detests co-dependence with other humans yet demands it with our handheld device. You are a far too wonderful nexus of connection to allow the most significant relationship in your life to be the one with your phone. #turnitoff
On reflection I find my initial tweet ableist and I am cancelling myself 😂 As an adjustment I retract the #turnitoff yet stand by the sentiment that we must be mindful of the way SM and addictive device design co-opt human connection and discourage us from reaching out
@angeywatson I agree totally. I do wonder if our shared co-dependence on our phones makes people less likely to visit those who need contact. Both because they are distracted and they assume people who can't get out have everything they need
I’m so proud of @GeorgeHouseTrst and one of my besties @misterknight who so expertly leads this @BigIssue named Change Maker organisation! And even more excited that our joint work led by @CheddarGorgeous is highlighted! Well done all, amazing!
Whether we like it or not the current, addictive, attention led, social media scape has turned activism into content creation, community into ad space and resistance into an act of complicity. Rejection of this model is a prerequisite of meaningful change.
15 years ago today I said “I do” to Mr @wesdoherty and we got hitched, that’s after 6 years of being together. We’re still #CivilPartners and he is my hero, rock and keeps my feet firmly on the ground. Happy Anniversary Wesley x
