47 cents. That's the number quietly gutting the diesel trucking industry.

Einride just placed the biggest Tesla Semi order ever. 500 trucks, hauling freight for Amazon across 5 states. Fleet growing from 250 to 750 electric rigs.

Diesel costs 67 cents a mile in fuel. Tesla's Semi runs on 20 cents. The gap: 47 cents a mile, or $47,000 a year per truck at 100,000 miles.

Scale that to 500 trucks: $23.5 million saved a year. Over 10 years, $235 million. Before maintenance savings are even counted.

Einride has $77 million in the bank. The trucks cost $130-140 million. Someone else is financing the gap, betting the math holds.

The charging math is stranger than it looks. Federal law forces drivers to take a 30-minute break every 8 hours. Tesla's Megacharger refills 300 miles of range in 30 minutes. The mandatory rest stop and the charge time land on the same number.

Gigafactory Nevada was built for 50,000 trucks a year. It's barely started running.

500 trucks isn't the story. It's the opening move.
