Yesterday was my last day with the @TorontoStar
The past year has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect and allowed me to see what I’m capable of doing when strong, supportive and understanding editors and colleagues are on my team. I’m so grateful.
The racist attack on a Black community in #BuffaloNY this afternoon resulting in 10 deaths was done by an 18 y.o. white supremacist who espoused ‘replacement theory’. Another tragic reminder of why hate speech is not a victimless crime.
An unpaid internship was just not in the realm of possibilities for me, even while bartending on the side. @CBCNews needs to do better. Or at least, be more subtle when sharing they didn’t want poor people to apply.

It is important to learn, understand and acknowledge why these 'numbers' are significant. It is not about sensationalizing this history but shaping current events so we all can heal; not to overlook, normalize or silence these little children any longer but to bring them home. 🧡
I would not wish the volume of cover letters, resumes and job interviews I've done in the past two years on anyone. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: it's a full time job looking for gainful employment.
