RUN SABER for the SNES (Horisoft/Atlus/1993) has this cool scene where you hang on an 'infected' F-16, very over the top.
The game is an homage to Capcom’s Strider, featuring fluid controls, neat visuals, and two-player co-op.
It's an SNES exclusive title and often featured in 'hidden gem' lists.

Thunder Force II on the Mega Drive (Technosoft/1989) was one of the first third-party games on the system and a launch title in North America.
Alternating top down and side viewed stages, it also features standout music, specially for an early title.
Ported from the X68000 version (1988), while the original 1983 Thunder Force game was released on the Sharp X1 and other Japanese computers.

- More settings that can be changed on the fly without having to restart a game;
- Better mapping of the home menu button;
- Adding games to Steam from within RPCS3.

[Nintendo Switch 2 System Update]

Version 22.0.0 adds "Handheld Mode Boost". This will make Switch 1 games think that they are in TV mode even when in handheld.

Games can run at higher resolutions in TV mode, taking better advantage of the Switch 2's 1080p screen.

The VALIS (ヴァリス) series, by Telenet Japan/Wolf Team.
Cult Japanese saga featuring a Tokyo high school student (Yuko) who must protect other realms while wielding the Valis sword.
Same year as Metroid, but unlike Samus, Yuko was marketed as a female warrior from the beginning.

The 16-bit games are good and were popular (recommended).

The earlier 8-bit games, on the other hand, are rough and would interest more in terms of gaming history rather than enjoyment (wouldn't recommend playing them today unless you're hardcore fan).
