Alberta nurses could vote to strike in a matter of weeks with their union far apart in negotiations with the UCP government on issues such as compensation.

⬇️⬇️ If the Alberta Energy Regulator was carrying out its mandate, folks would understand that, unlike most other jurisdictions in North America, Alberta wouldn’t have a perceived orphan well problem. ⬇️⬇️
Great piece @jvrCTV! I agree with it. Thanks!
I’m waiting for this same surgery (ileostomy reversal - temporarily bypassed lower bowel) because of colorectal cancer surgery).

“The Alberta government has officially handed back more than $137 million to the federal government after running out of time to spend the cash to clean up old oil and natural gas wells.”

“This is a warning signal for all small towns with aging hospitals. You had better call your local MLA, because if you have to start passing the hat to replace your local hospital you might end up with less health care service than what you had."

According to AP, Alberta’s energy minister @BrianJeanAB has confirmed that the public will soon begin to share costs now reserved for the oil & gas industry.

As I’ve been warning anyone who would listen for years, the polluter pay principle is circling the drain in Alberta.
Time to plug the hole while we still can.
Energy minister says public money could help finance Alberta energy cleanup | Calgary Herald https://t.co/kYqV1MqotJ
Did you drill the well or share in its profit? No. Why should you pay to plug it?
Did you blow salt water to the flarepit, bury drilling waste, or spill produced fluids? No. Why should you pay for cleanup?
Tell Alberta MLAs: make polluters pay.

Energy minister @BrianJeanAB confirmed what we in the land rights space have known for years: It’s either polluter pay (status quo), or citizen pay with his proposed law change.
The bill to be paid is $260 billion.
Polluter pay is the only way. https://t.co/kYqV1MqotJ
Lady Gaga acknowledges infamous Facebook page, ‘Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous,’ created by old classmates:
“This is why you can’t give up when people doubt you or put you down.”
1/. Repeatedly encountering this:
An oil or gas well licensee, which purchased the well (presumably with petroleum & natural gas lease) in a bankruptcy sale, has no copy of surface lease agreement (“right of entry”), nor does landowner. Operator delinquent on annual payments…
6/. P.S. According to Regulator records the 200 companies I mentioned have collective assets of $1,600.00 and hold over 25,000 licenses.
It’s not enough to pay even one landowner. Yet their wells are not designated as “orphans” despite existing, unsupervised, on the land.
Why not have the parallel conversation about who will clean up spent oil & gas wells, related facilities & pipelines? This is a far bigger problem than renewables cleanup. Renewables operators can’t force their way onto the land like oil & gas can - this is the big difference.
Did you know that the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is in charge of “leasing” public land surfaces for use as oil and gas sites and pipeline rights-of-way?
Lack of transparency wrt delinquency of payments is just one more reason we need serious AER reforms.
#AERReform
Alberta oil & gas producers use public lands & private lands (surfaces) they don’t own to access subsurface petroleum & natural gas.
Delinquency in compensating private landowners is a problem (taxpayers cover private landowners’ expenses).
What about public land delinquency?
