Another great week of Legler Camp in the books! 🏀
I’ve been fortunate enough to work this camp for over 10 years, but this year was a little more special because Max got to be a camper for the first time!
We definitely challenged him this week. The youngest age group at camp was 8–9 years old, and Max is only 6, but he didn’t back down from the challenge. He competed, worked hard, held his own with the older kids, and even came away as the Free Throw Champion! 🏆🏀
As a coach, I’ve spent so many summers watching kids come through this camp, so getting the chance to watch my own son experience it was pretty special. I was proud of how Max competed, but even more proud of how much he enjoyed being around the game, learning, and just being part of camp.
He had an awesome week and loved every minute of it. We weren’t even finished and he was already asking, “When is camp next year?”
Great week, great memories, and one proud dad!
And a big thank you to Tim and Christina for having camp and making it all possible year after year!
Over 50 burgers and 24 hot dogs later… I think it’s safe to say the Cherokee boys can eat! 😂🍔🌭
Another End of Summer BBQ in the books and another great day for our program. As we officially close the door on our summer workouts and start turning our attention toward the fall and the upcoming season, days like today are a reminder that building a basketball program is about so much more than what happens between the lines.
It was great seeing the guys together away from the court hanging out, laughing, eating, and even spending part of the day watching old Cherokee basketball games. There’s something special about watching the current players learn about the teams and players who came before them and understand the tradition they are now responsible for carrying forward.
That’s what Cherokee Basketball culture is all about. Every player who has put on the uniform has helped build something, and every new group has the responsibility to continue it. The relationships, pride, accountability, competitiveness, and commitment to each other are what make a program strong.
Summer workouts are officially complete. A lot of work was put in, a lot of growth took place, and now we move into the next phase.
The Cherokee Basketball program is strong, our culture continues to grow, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.
WE > ME. The Standard continues.
Week 3 of 4 at Chiefs Basketball Camp is officially in the books!
Our campers did an outstanding job this week competing, working hard, and improving their basketball fundamentals every single day.
One of our biggest themes this week was culture and competing. We talked about what it means to be a great teammate, play the right way, and bring energy and effort every time you step on the court.
It was also great having so many of my former players and former campers back this week helping coach the next generation. Many of them went through Chiefs Basketball Camp and the Cherokee Boys and Girls Basketball programs themselves, so it’s special to see them giving back and passing along the same values that helped shape them.
On the court, we focused on sharing the basketball, playing without the ball through proper spacing and movement, and making the extra pass. And if you know anything about the Cherokee Basketball Program, you know we spent plenty of time on defense because that’s our foundation and something we take great pride in.
Thank you to all of our campers, parents, and coaches for another awesome week. We can’t wait to finish the summer strong during Week 4 (August 10–13)!
🏀 We still have a few spots remaining if you’d like to join us!
Can’t wait to see everyone back on the court for the final week!
🏀🔥 WEEK 1 OF CHIEFS BASKETBALL CAMP IS COMPLETE! 🔥🏀
What an incredible way to kick off our 10th summer of Chiefs Basketball Camp! Week 1 was packed with energy, enthusiasm, and nonstop basketball as our campers spent four days learning, competing, improving, and having an absolute blast.
From skill development and competitive drills to Hot Shot, foul shooting contests, 3-on-3 tournaments, and championship games, our campers brought great effort every single day. It was awesome watching players build confidence, make new friends, cheer each other on, and leave the gym better than they arrived.
The future of Cherokee Basketball is bright, and we’re thankful to all of the campers and families who made Week 1 such a tremendous success!
🏀 The summer isn’t over! We still have THREE MORE WEEKS of camp remaining, and spots are still available. If your son or daughter is looking to improve their game, compete, learn from the Cherokee coaching staff and players, and have a great time this summer, now is the perfect opportunity to join us.
Thank you again to everyone who was part of an unforgettable Week 1. We can’t wait to see what the next three weeks have in store!
