he 1948 edition of the Robson Lowe Encyclopedia raises two points of interest with these stamps. They bore currencies of three different languages and alphabets (English, Cyrillic and Greek) and were produced during war on a naval vessel)

1916 (25 Jan) "On His Majesty's Service" envelope addressed to the Government Secretary at "H.M.S. Europa", at Mudros (Lt. Commander Lucach, later Sir Harry Luke) franked with seven stamps

They were designed by Lt.Cmdr Luke and printed in imperf. Sheets of 12, by a photographic process (similar to that used in Mafeking during the Boer War) aboard the H.M.Aircraft Carrier "Ark Royal"

A veritable treasure of British Empire and Iraqi philately, ex-Marquis de Bute collection, one of perhaps only four complete sets of the unissued Baghdad overprints in private hands (mentioned but not listed in Gibbons)
