I was talking about caste discrimination to a Brahmin woman, who had seemingly never had to break a sweat. Her response was that one of her relatives isn’t getting married because he doesn’t own a car.
I laughed, and I cried.
To sleep peacefully at night, you probably need to be a mindless human who never questions anything. And here, I choose to be the opposite.
Man i get dreams of RSS goons chasing and banging doors of my house.
I get the ick from people who like Dhirendra Shastri, a fascist, casteist goon. His hate isn’t limited to Muslims; he fuels hatred within Hindus across caste, gender and faith. And you call him a Dharm Rakshak? He is a criminal, a threat, who can say hateful about anything.
It’s no coincidence that fascism is rising while reading is declining. Fascists are most scared of people who read, question, analyse and think independently.
It makes me sad and angry to see women enjoying their privileges while perpetuating patriarchy through their actions or silence. Feminism cannot be selective. You cannot demand equality for yourself while remaining indifferent to the injustices faced by less privileged women.
A man can only be a feminist if he is empathetic towards women and willing to acknowledge and accept their lived experiences and the realities of patriarchy. Otherwise, he is simply a sexist, regardless of what he calls himself. There is no middle ground.
The core concept of KarwaChauth is patriarchy. No matter how much commercialisation repackages it, its underlying premise remains the same. Its meaning may have changed for you, but most women’s identities in India are still defined by their husbands and to serve them.
