On the 50th Anniversary of Dr Subramanian @Swamy39 dramatic & daring appearance in the Parliament, inspite of an arrest warrant in his name, during the peak Emergency, he escaped again to champion for the cause of Democracy. #EmergencyHero

A recap of what happened:-

-It took place in the Rajya Sabha (not Lok Sabha) on 10 August 1976, during the Emergency.

-Dr Subramanian Swamy (then a Rajya Sabha MP with an arrest warrant against him) entered the House while Vice-President B.D. Jatti was reading obituary references.

-He stood up, raised a brief point of order, and said words to the effect of:
“Sir, I have a point of order. Between sessions, democracy has also died. You should have included that in your list.”

-The Chairman called for two minutes’ silence; Dr Subramanian Swamy walked out and escaped.
The intervention lasted only a few seconds/minutes. Official records note the interruption but do not contain a full speech transcript.

When "Delcy" Comes to New Delhi

Even as India hews to its independent approach to international affairs, many see Modi as the country’s most pro-U.S. prime minister ever. This impression, whether right or wrong, is likely to be reinforced by Modi’s hosting of Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez — a visit first announced not by New Delhi but by the U.S. secretary of state.

No less striking is that this is Rodríguez’s first formal official visit to another country since U.S. forces captured President Nicolas Maduro and helped install her as his successor. (Rodríguez was in the Netherlands last month specifically to appear before the International Court of Justice in a territorial dispute with Guyana, rather than to conduct a traditional state visit.)

Because of the way she became interim head of government, “Delcy” has become a new universal shorthand (like “Quisling” or “Mir Jafar”) for a collaborator who trades a country’s sovereignty for political survival and personal power.

While cozying up to her regime, India has become the No. 1 international buyer of Venezuelan oil, according to last month’s data.

But payments for oil purchases do not go directly to the Venezuelan government. Instead, under a form of “neocolonial tutelage,” the proceeds must be deposited into U.S. Treasury-controlled custody accounts. Washington holds the purse strings, exercising ultimate authority over when, how much, and for what purposes the money is released.

While many global buyers shy away from Venezuelan oil because of the complex U.S.-mandated compliance and tracking requirements, Reliance Industries and other Indian refiners have stepped in aggressively.

With Washington's encouragement, India now serves as the primary demand anchor for Venezuela’s U.S.-controlled export revenues.
