As of May 29, 2026, the official implementation of the Ontario Final Agreement (OFA) has begun. We are sharing key dates and updates as the First Nation Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program in Ontario transitions to this historic new model.
This milestone marks a critical shift toward First Nations-led child and family services through direct annual funding for prevention, post-majority support, and household relief.
The theme for this year’s National AccessAbility Week is "Building a Strong, Accessible Canada”, an opportunity to commit to building strong, accessible First Nations. Many First Nations are not accessible due to chronic underfunding of infrastructure. The AFN’s “Closing the Infrastructure Gap by 2030” report estimates a $349.2 billion investment is required and calls for sustained and adequate resources to ensure First Nations communities have inclusive and accessible infrastructure.
Creating accessible spaces for First Nations persons with disabilities helps to build strong communities and a strong Canada where everyone can fully participate, connect, and thrive. Discover actionable recommendations in the AFN Shadow Report to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and join us in advocating for lasting change: https://t.co/VB2V9bLyz5. #NAAW2026
