OACPS Secretary-General H.E. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, along with the Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to Belgium and Chair of the OACPS Committee of Ambassadors, H.E. Leon Raphael Mokoko, and H.E. Cheryl Bazard, Ambassador of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to Belgium and Caribbean Group Coordinator, paid a tribute visit to the Embassy of Guyana in Brussels to sign the condolence book following the passing of Sir Shridath Ramphal. In an exchange with the Ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to Brussels, H.E. Sasenarine Singh, Secretary-General Chikoti stated that Sir Shridath had been key in the founding of the OACPS, securing independence for Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific nations, and negotiating peace in Southern Africa Region. He further noted that Sir Shridath fought colonialism alongside figures like Kenneth Kaunda, Nelson Mandela, and others, and campaigned against apartheid. Secretary-General Chikoti lauded Sir Shridath’s advocacy for the Global South, championing trade, environmental, and human rights issues. Sir Shridath believed collaboration was crucial for the Global South's voice. He was instrumental in establishing Inter-Regional Organisation Coordinating Committee (IROCC), a platform for engagement for Regional Organisations in the OACPS.

In a landmark ceremony marking a new era of cooperation , representatives from the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Union (EU) convened in Apia, Samoa, on November 15, 2023, to sign the long-awaited Samoa Agreement.
The legally binding document, which succeeds the Cotonou Agreement, formalizes a renewed partnership between the two entities, paving the way for strengthened collaboration on a range of critical issues, including sustainable development, climate change, human rights, and democratic governance.
