@Mike_Owens2@TheFonzPart@chomper1994 The best selling game on the Switch 1 was literally a Wii U game ported to the Switch. In fact a large chunk of the early Switch titles that were must haves were just ports/remasters of the actually good Wii U titles.
@IndomitableJamz I similarly can discuss sequel culture being creatively bankrupt in some way, but compared to remake culture or games as a service culture, sequels are by far the lesser evil. But I would prefer more new ips.
@IndomitableJamz The GOG dino crisis and RE ports run fine other than sometimes a bit of jank getting them to recognize controllers, the steam ones have issues entirely not present on the GOG versions because for some reason Capcom put DRM on them.
@IndomitableJamz Like why are we putting protection software that makes it run worse on a 30 year old game that is also actively available for sale on another platform without it. On top of why did another company have to convince Capcom their game is worth something still.
@IndomitableJamz Capcom I'm particularly disappointed by because my understanding is GOG basically had to pull teeth to get Capcom to let them port the PC versions of the PS1 REs to modern Windows compatibility. And then Capcom reluctantly like a few years later put them on Steam too, with DRM?
@IndomitableJamz Plus there is a discussion to be had that this remake culture is encouraging companies to just recycle the same stuff again rather than actually making sequels or exploring entirely new franchises/spinoffs.
@IndomitableJamz Like if we want games as art, which they are, we need people and the companies making them to understand that old stuff still has value in it's original form, and that if people can't handle playing a game from 20 years ago, that's on them not the game.
@IndomitableJamz Which is particularly disappointing because of all companies fucking Ubisoft understood this at one point in time. Prince of Persia Sands of Time had the entire original 89 game in it, and they actively encouraged you to try it as a good game and to see how it's different.
@IndomitableJamz The problem is until either A. people can on average be smart enough to understand art to the level that remakes aren't replacements, or B. publishers/developers can properly promote that remakes aren't replacements, they end up being anti-art from one or both ends.
@IndomitableJamz And truthfully the remakes that are super faithful and can arguably completely replace the original I think are also doing a disservice because a remake is an opportunity to make a new piece of art and a new experience rather than just retreading the exact same thing.
@IndomitableJamz You aren't preserving art by replacing it with a remake, and unfortunately both game publishers/developers and a large part of the consumer base, view remakes as complete and total replacements. Even though that's just an entirely different piece of art now.
@j3kba If you are gonna pull any of them for "meta" reasons, probably Anis/Dorothy are top priority, then Helm/Sakura/Rosanna, Elegg/Mary can be useful for raids but lower priority compared to everyone listed before, Neon unfortunately is just outright a bad unit.
@j3kba It's mostly that they're limited availability to only whenever their banner is live, unlike most that just enter regular banner pool and wishlist after like a few weeks. A few are really good for solo/union raid type content though.
