We were delighted to be able to discuss the flow of water across the commons with Jonathon Stevens, Catchment Monitoring Officer with South East Rivers Trust. Our management and monitoring of the ditches, drains and ponds is important beyond the boundaries of the common land.
We heartily welcome February with its early signs that spring is getting closer! Please see below the link to our February newsletter to find out the latest goings-on at Chislehurst Commons π³π³

We are fortunate to have received a welcome boost to our funds recently via a legacy from a former #Chislehurst resident and teacher.
This form of giving is an excellent way to support the commons and can be inheritance tax efficient.

πWe wish everyone a very Happy New Year!π
Whatever challenges 2025 brings to the natural world we will continue to do our best to maintain the Commons as a beautiful and safe greenspace free and open to our community 24/7, and to maximise its biodiversity π²π¦π³πͺ³π²π¦π³
December has brought wind and rain so far this year. Our latest newsletter has scenes from 100 years ago of deep snow and people skating skating on Prickend Pond. βοΈβΈοΈβοΈ Wishing our wonderful Chislehurst and beyond community a very Merry Christmas from Chislehurst Commons πππ
Chislehurst War Memorial was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield who also designed the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres. He chose the site personally, saying that it had the perfect woodland setting, and he positioned the monument to catch the morning sun.
The text shown is from the Order of Service from the unveiling ceremony. It was decided to inscribe the names in alphabetical order with no reference to rank. The Remembrance Day ceremony 2024 is this coming Sunday.
Looking for half term activities? Come along this Monday for a morning of art, craft and outdoor discovery on Chislehurst Common. It's a free event - no need to book! Just drop in and join us!
Details are on the poster. We look forward to seeing you! ππ¨ #halftermactivities

Great news! Chislehurst Commons were presented with a Gold Award at the London in Bloom Awards! Our huge thanks go to the Keepers, Trustees, working party #volunteers and all the other supporters who do so much to make the 180 acres so special π #bloomawards#community
This week the Working Party were at the Cricket Ground cutting and raking some of the grass on the anthills which was inhibiting the growth of flowering plants. These are valuable because they attract butterflies and other invertebrates, besides providing colour and interest. π¦
The monthly bird count at the ponds today included this Robin at Rush Pond . The black-headed gulls that spend the winter in Chislehurst have begun to arrive, and there was also a larger herring gull at Prickend Pond.
Low water levels in Rush Pond enabled volunteers to wade across to the island today to cut back some of the overhanging foliage. It was also an opportunity to clean the depth gauge!
