The Guildford PEI masterclass this week was so useful and informative. Lovely to be back face to face too. The information given can help so many of my patients
👂LISTEN- be an open ear to how that person is feeling. Are they opening up about low mood? Financial worries? Mobility issues? And how may these things impact on their appetite and their ability to eat?
This slide from the Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency masterclass I’m attending, sums up why it is so important to identify those at risk of malnutrition and, more importantly, give them the support they need #UKMAW2022#malnutritionawarenessweek#pancreaticexocrineinsufficiency
If you’re a friend, family, Health Professional of a vulnerable person (due to a health condition or age) then:
❓ASK- start a conversation around how they’re doing with food
👀LOOK- any signs of unplanned weight loss? Loose clothes, jewellery, dentures e.t.c
PLAN YOUR MEALS. Ever gone home with a full trolley of GF products just because you were excited you could buy those things gluten free? (Hopefully not just me!). Plan meals in advance and stick to your list when shopping
Feeling the pinch if you have to follow a GF diet alongside the cost of living crisis? I am 100% with you.
🥐I’ve had to follow a GF diet for the last 5 years for suspected Coeliac disease (long story!), so I’ve picked up a few budget friendly tips along the way. #glutenfree
3. SHOP AROUND AND LOOK IN BUDGET SUPERMARKETS: some shops have special events on where all GF foods are on offer and certain things are cheaper in specific shops. A lot of meat products in budget supermarkets such as sausages, burgers, fish fingers and chicken tempura are now GF
2. LOVE YOUR FREEZER. If you struggle to get through a whole loaf of GF bread before it goes mouldy then freeze it. Buy things when they are on offer to freeze and freeze herbs and leftovers. Frozen fruit and veg can often be cheaper and is just as good.
