@JustinNevins_ @SUZETTE1971@CNN@Airbnb I’m glad they came through for you! @Airbnb finally refunded me. No thanks to the host that tried to say me not coming this weekend was not doing my part for the island.
Tried to respectfully work with the host but look at these responses. They are all about making the $$$$. No tenderness, caring or respect for the people or the land. #maui#airbnb
@_StephanieRae_ Yeah I called her out on her lack of responsiveness in addressing my concerns as a host and that it felt inhumane given what’s going on that she kept saying it’s okay for us to go. So now I feel like she’s just being petty any chance she gets.
@Jodie__Lister @KanielaIng Their extenuating circumstances are vague for a reason so it can be easy for @Airbnb to justify not refunding. Ex. They said my area wasn’t covered, then later said well extenuating circumstances are only for check in dates from the 10-14, which doesn’t cover mine on the 19th.
@YeyeInThisBish @MrPadre1904@AirbnbHelp@Airbnb Same boat. @AirbnbHelp is only activating extenuating circumstances if you check in from the 10-14th. We check in the 19th so they said SOL
@Airbnb@Airbnb how about you extend the Extenuating Circumstance policy past 8/15 for those with reservations in Maui so people cancel their trips with 100% refund. Show that you care about something other than profit. Maui needs resources right now, not reservations.
My heart breaks hearing of the devastation in Maui.
The climate crisis is here and its killing people. It’s time for @POTUS to declare a climate emergency.
@vickitait4@tjwhitfordnz@KanielaIng I’m reading so many mixed posts too about the impact of tourism. Some say don’t go because resources are limited and save it for the locals and some say the tourism stimulates Maui’s economy. My gut tells me the former though.
@vickitait4@tjwhitfordnz@KanielaIng Yeah all these hosts posting on platforms saying there are still plenty of places in Maui that people can enjoy on vacation
@vickitait4@tjwhitfordnz@KanielaIng But we got half our money back at least since we were still within the partial refund window and there was no point to continue talking to her.
@vickitait4@tjwhitfordnz@KanielaIng If she needed the dollars and told us then we would have been open to understanding. If she was like hey I’m currently being impacted too so I can’t refund you but if you all end up not coming, I’ll open up my residence to locals then I’d be HAPPY to consider it a donation.
@DifferentlySim1@tjwhitfordnz@KanielaIng It could be 🤷🏻♀️ but could she have just said that from the beginning? Like hey did you think of checking with your travel insurance? And then explained a bit more from her perspective instead of gaslighting me?
Lāhainā was once wetland.
Boats circled around Waikoloa Church.
It’s only became dry and fire-prone because of illegal water diversions and land theft by sugar barons in the 1800’s.
Today, the same families reap insane profits off continued control of our irrigation, land regulators, and politicians.
As we rebuild, we must restore the Green New Deal promise of public land and water use.
@vickitait4@tjwhitfordnz@KanielaIng Yeah she also said I was completely clueless and selfish as to what was going on there and that I was harassing her and her family by calling her out. Her listing isn’t even up. If it was safe for me and my family then why isn’t the listing up? https://t.co/9XPBr8IXgk
