Tennessee Republicans refused to expel an admitted child molester in their ranks.

But today, they expelled two Democrats for pushing for gun safety reform in the wake of a school shooting.

There’s something people are missing about what happened in Tennessee.

This was personal.

Rep. Justin Jones didn’t only protest for stronger gun safety. He was the activist who played a role in the bust of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest being taken down from
the Tennessee Capitol.

In February 2019, Rep. Jones, then an unelected activist, staged a protest at the Tennessee state Capitol where he demanded the removal of a the former Ku Klux Klan leader before being arrested.

The statue was finally removed in 2021. However, it seems some relics of the past remain.

Those are issues that DO NOT rise to the level of expulsion from Congress in Tennessee.

But protesting gun violence after a deadly mass shooting can get Reps Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones and Justin Pearson expelled.
