Since 2019, FCM has been advocating for a sustainably and sufficiently funded Urban, Rural and Northern (URN) Indigenous Housing Strategy. This work has included relationship-building with national, provincial and local Indigenous housing providers to ensure that urgent housing needs for the Indigenous community are met.
We welcome yesterday’s announcement that funding to the sum of $287.1 million will be delivered immediately through the National Indigenous Collaborative Housing Incorporated (NICHI) for Indigenous housing projects.
Indigenous leadership is paramount to addressing urban, rural and Northern Indigenous housing needs, and we are pleased to see NICHI leading this important work.
A new era in collaboration toward reconciliation. There is nothing we can't do when we work together. "This is what cooperation looks like. Congratulations to NICHI for what you do, for believing in what you do. With one heart, one mind, we can make a difference." - MP Jenny Kwan
