@Khorgnir TBH with how they talked about DT not being part of their first saga I would have thought they would introduce it then, the only issue they kinda have is that they still feature the scions heavily but a new intro that simply says they are seasoned heroes gets the job done mostly.
@KajuIchimonji@sagathena@ptprotagonist Its very "the greatest hits playlist" in a pocket dimension basically, I enjoyed the raids but you don't even get to spend time in most of the locales its referencing as you are whisked off to another.
@ptprotagonist Actually coming back to this I think i have a great example. How many people are aware that the 4 lords SB trial series is a homage to FF11? The elements and characters that story is referring are very well integrated into the lore of Othard that many forget its a ff11 reference.
@ptprotagonist The original post wasn't saying that collabs are bad, just that there was a difference to a homage and a collab, the magitech armour may play Terras theme but isn't introduced with her riding it and being a narrative point where as the 16 collab has Clive teaming up with the WOL
@sagathena@ptprotagonist I did go into this further in the post but the omegascape was not advertised as a collab and ff5/6 elements dont really serve a narrative purpose beyond omega constructing them simply for you to have a fight. Their implementation could have been done better though.
@ptprotagonist The Omega raids for example were not announced as Collaborations with FF5 and 6 we only got that knowledge when they came out and those elements don't actually serve a story purpose beyond "Omega created these bosses for you to fight".
@ptprotagonist Which means for the next 2 years 2 of the larger pillars of FF14 content will be collab based where as the Dragon quest event was a limited small event or the Monster Hunter collabs were singular fights. Could still be well written just that Nier would be our biggest reference.
@ptprotagonist The Nier Collab on the other hand has incredibly recognisable characters (2B, 9S) and has to be vastly separated and disjointed from the first as it doesn't as organically integrate with FF14s world. That doesn't mean its bad, just that it doesn't serve 14s worldbuilding as much.
@ptprotagonist The best comparison here would be the Crystal tower to Nier, the crystal tower does use elements of FF3 and recognisable locales and bosses but the crystal tower isn't the same as FF3 but instead a facility created by the Allagan empire fleshing out some of FF14s own lore.
@ashenreyffxiv@moonmin_03 Have side quests and MSQ given rewards for redoing them? What is the main piece of end game content people engage with beyond the major patch updates with story? Where does a decent bit of this gear (which is an upgrade mind you) that you speak of come from?
@elegeia_ No fr im tired of this some people think the collabs are hype and some people wanted more ff14 specific centred narratives like you dont have the seek out the opposing side to win points on twitter its a personal preference thing no one needs to be on the attack about it.
@chairwoman_H@moonmin_03 Yeah that does make sense, just that collaboration and inspired by set 2 different vibes which is why I think people are treating the FF7 raid announcements the way they are (outside of the fact that both raid series for evercold are collabs that is)
@ashenreyffxiv@moonmin_03 The first could have had more of its history fleshed out for example instead of the Nier collab. The idea of crossover or collabs themselves arent bad but them taking the place of an expansions 2 year long content cycle offers less opportunities to explore ff14s own setting.
@ashenreyffxiv@moonmin_03 8 man and 24 man raids also make up the majority of level cap experience for every expansion and are the most replayed due to being the current new content, its understandable for people to be disappointed in a collab instead of using thee to flesh out ff14s own unique world.
@ashenreyffxiv@moonmin_03 The Rathalos and Arkveld fights are 1 off fights, ff16 was a limited timed event. They do not make up a large part of an expansions content, the scale is what is the most important to this argument and the initial graphic is stating the differences between collab and homage.
