📌Yesterday marked one year since 70 white rhinos were translocated to @AkageraPark , marking the first cross-continental move under African Parks' Rhino Rewild Initiative.

📌The translocation was completed in two phases of 35 rhinos each, spaced three days apart, with the goal of bolstering Akagera's white rhino population and reinforcing #Rwanda's growing role in continental conservation efforts.

📌The results have been encouraging. The rhinos adapted quickly to their new environment, and thanks to Rwanda's sustained commitment to protecting endangered species, not a single rhino has been lost to poaching since their arrival, according to @AkageraPark management.

📌Today, @AkageraPark is home to the Big Five, including a thriving rhino population that stands as a testament to what dedicated conservation can achieve.

📌#Rwanda’s success in tourism is closely linked to conservation. The country has invested heavily in protecting wildlife and natural habitats. As a result, animal populations have increased in several national parks.

📌Moreover, conservation programs involve local communities and people living near parks benefit directly from tourism activities.

Stop lumping Uganda into these numbers, as it creates the false impression that there is a widespread Ebola outbreak in the country when that is not the case.

Uganda currently has only 6 active Ebola cases out of 9 confirmed cases, with 2 recoveries and 1 death. The majority of the confirmed cases are Congolese nationals, alongside a small number of health workers who were exposed while providing care. There is no evidence of community transmission.

The situation should be reported accurately and in its proper context rather than presenting regional figures in a way that misrepresents the reality on the ground in Uganda.

The WHO has declared a global health emergency. A strain of Ebola with no approved vaccine is spreading in eastern Congo — where 8 million displaced people have little access to healthcare. Two thirds of Virunga National Park and most of our staff are inside the affected area.⁠

Today, while travelling from Arua to Kampala aboard a YY bus registration UAZ 701X, the situation became unbearable upon reaching Nebbi. The bus crew continued adding passengers into the corridors, while others boarded carrying chickens and ducks, making it difficult for passengers to even breathe comfortably.

I decided to call the Police Traffic Emergency number 0800199099. By the time we reached Pakwach Bridge, traffic officers had already impounded the bus, issued the driver an EPS ticket for excess passengers, and removed the overcrowding.

Yes, we have lost some time on the journey, but it is far better to arrive late than to risk lives by travelling in unsafe conditions, exhausted and unwell.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let us value life over recklessness.
