Our school district has been w/o wi-fi for 2 weeks (hacked). Now should be the time for our instructional leaders in the school and central office to shine helping teachers who don't have books and are struggling to teach without access to our online sources. Instead, crickets.
I want to give a shout out to colleagues that checked on me today, knowing I was going through a rough time. Thank you. I promise I'll do the same for you.
Nothing says "we appreciate you" more than the county you've worked in for 25 years giving you a certificate for teaching distinction and spelling your name wrong.
Things I will not miss about being a teacher. Lockdown drills, riding a school bus on a field trip, a meeting that should have been an email and grading. All of which I've done in the past two days.
A middle school teacher in the district died in a horrific traffic accident last week. His funeral is this upcoming Saturday. The district posted his job today…
It is days like today that make me waver about this being my last year. We did hard things in class, but my students were willing to try and to help each other. I can’t ask for more.
It was a hard short week. From giving the custodian a hug when she broke down in my room, to letting a teacher vent over some crap she shouldn’t have had to deal with and finally finding a place to store a slightly dangerous t shirt cannon that the robotics club built.
Doing away with Honors classes at my school is one of the dumber decisions that has been made. Students can take regular or AP classes. AP does not equate to honors.
I am upset. I fought, complained and tried really hard to be the squeaky wheel. I wanted my AP Research students to have the opportunity to get Microsoft certified. Today I found because of how my class is coded that isn’t going to happen.
Last year I pushed so hard to cover the curriculum I forgot that science, physics in particular, should be fun. I’m working hard to get back to enjoying my students and my subject this year.
School feels strange this year. Everyone is walking on eggshells with a new admin. No one is talking to anyone and the cliques are worse than ever. I think we’ve lost our sense of community. I’m hoping it’s just beginning of the year crap because I don’t like this.
Last first day? Maybe. Classes are packed. Having 31+ in AP classes is hard. I do love teaching AP Research though. Probably one of my favorite classes ever.
Pre-planning was going so well until today. 4 hours of PD with a paid speaker who had never taught high school and was used to training elementary level teachers. Where is my differentiation? Oh well, it was good to see friends from the other high schools today. 186 days to go.
