Our hearts are shattered.
Emerging from the holy fast of Yom Kippur, British Jews are now grasping the full extent of today’s terror attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester.
This is the day we hoped we would never see, but which deep down, we knew would come.
For so long we have witnessed an unrelenting wave of Jew hatred on our streets, on campuses, on social media and elsewhere – this is the tragic result.
This not only an assault on the Jewish community, but an attack on the very foundations of humanity and the values of compassion, dignity and respect which we all share.
I have spoken this evening to Rabbi Daniel Walker, the spiritual leader of the Heaton Park Synagogue. His courageous leadership, together with the resilience of his congregation, are an inspiration to us all.
May the victims’ memories be for a blessing and may the injured be granted a swift recovery.
I pray that this tragedy strengthens our collective resolve to confront antisemitism, in all its guises, once and for all.
A shocking attack on such a holy day. @UttlesfordDC will fly its flag at half mast and I am writing to the Lord Mayor of Manchester to express our condolences.
These attacks on Yom Kippur are horrifying.
The Jewish community should never have to live in fear.
Britain must remain a safe home for Jews: free from hatred, intimidation or violence.
We don't owe access to our country to anybody.
People can only come to Britain if we let them, and we should only let them if it’s in the national interest.
The only fairness that matters in our immigration system is fairness to the British people, as I wrote in @Telegraph 👇
There are no words good enough to express the horror of this.
The killing of Charlie Kirk is a blow to everything Western civilization stands for: open discourse, robust debate and peaceful dissent. He lived his life by those very principles, no matter the danger it put him in.
This may have happened far from our shores, but the rising intolerance of opposing views affects us all. We cannot turn a blind eye to it.
My thoughts are with Charlie’s family, his wife Erika, and their children.
Kirk isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he deserves to live and continue to uphold his own values. Freedom of speech is critical in an any democracy, and so is the right to life.
Earlier this week I took a trip to the home of horse racing to help out in the upcoming West Suffolk by-election for Newmarket East. Great to catch up and campaign with @NJ_Timothy.
I had the pleasure of meeting Daisy-Mae just a few weeks ago at the High Sheriff’s Garden Party. Congrats to her, and of course her mum Louise, who is Chairman of @eppingforestdc.
Loughton's Daisy-Mae Mead, 13, has been nominated for a @BBCEssex 'Make a Difference' Award in the 'Young Hero' category which recognises people aged under 16 who have made a positive impact in their community.

I am thrilled to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for the first Mayor of Greater Essex.
I would like to thank everyone who voted for me – I won’t let you down.
I would also like to thank Roger and James for a good campaign and wish them all the very best.
Big thanks to Councillor and entrepreneur Chris Criscione for the support.
I’m committed to straight-talking, no-nonsense leadership that puts Essex first - backing business, standing up for our communities, and getting things done.

Vote Louise MCKINLAY for your FIRST choice for the Conservative candidate for the first Mayor of Greater Essex:
✅ True Conservative values
✅ Passionate Conservative campaigner
✅ The Conservative candidate who can win - with the track record to govern as Mayor from day one.
Essex needs a straight talking, no nonsense figure with integrity, who will fight our corner and get the investment we need. That’s why I’m backing @LouiseMcKinlay https://t.co/sVs4iNgkNS
Honoured to have been selected as one of the Conservative candidates for Mayor of Greater Essex.
If you're a @Conservatives member in Essex - your vote counts next week.
I'm focused on real results: backing business, growing our economy & standing up for local people.
The results are in: we have a clear mandate to strike.
More than 90% of you who voted in our ballot, voted YES.
You’ve made it clear: enough is enough.
Our fight for full #PayRestoration for resident doctors in England continues.
The government has pulled funding for widening the A12 between Chelmsford and Colchester. This is a huge missed opportunity for Essex.
I’ve written to the Minister to demand answers. If I’m elected Mayor of Greater Essex, I’ll take this fight to government.
As Mayor, I’ll support well-designed homes in the right locations with real input from the community.
Fitzroy Place in Blackmore is a great example: quality housing, proper infrastructure, and a growing neighbourhood shaped by local voices.
Brilliant to see it coming to life!
