TY @ByMauraBarrett for focus on opioid crisis, but conclusions are misleading: https://t.co/xgQJOL16uQ. 1. Reduced potency of fentanyl likely causing of reduced deaths 2. Nalmfene prolongs withdrawal and lacks evidence of efficacy over naloxone https://t.co/0vZWPxLnXj

@Sharrison_WFAE From Sep 2019 to July 2021, Atrium CMC and ME participated in NHTSA drug prevalence study in injured roadway users. 55.3% of seriously injured drivers in hospital and 70% of fatally injured drivers at ME had intoxicating substance in their system. https://t.co/XXO1jw5G9o
Opioid use is not always illicit. Anyone can fall victim to an overdose. That’s why @AtriumHealth home-based care teammates will now carry lifesaving #naloxone kits. When used correctly, naloxone can reverse the life-threatening effects of an overdose.

@CharlotteTalks As an ED doc working at Charlotte's only and largest level 1 trauma center, I see impaired driving (drugs/alcohol) as possibly the biggest cause to rising motor vehicle deaths in our city. Data from NHTSA study our hospital participated in backs this up: https://t.co/4JzKJMqsgU
I have cared for many uninsired working patients who have strokes from inability to afford healthcare. Failing to expand Mediciad costs lives and we still end up paying more when patients end up in the emergency room or disabled on Mediciad. @DanaMillerErvin@JeffJacksonNC
To all my female physicians and medical toxicologists out there can we please boycott @wearfigs for this inappropriate and unprofessional advertisement!
@amalmattu@UMEmergencyMed Would add: intoxicated patients give emergency physicians the fulfilling opportunity to change a life. Always screen, engage in motivational interviewing, and refer to treatment. A little bit of your time can change/save a life.
Preoperative opioid use in ortho trauma patients is associated with some poor prognostic indicators...and if you have more than one..it's much worse! Increased complications, ER visits and readmissions! Another collaboration! @BigOrthoTrauma@JosephHsuMD https://t.co/vfQXonbw17
@1a. What does it mean to not have health insurance? As an ER doc in NC that did not expand Medicaid, I see strokes and heart attacks and deaths from preventable causes bc difficult for uninsured to access doctors and medications. Mediciad expansion is a no brainer.

@bui_anthony@RheaBoydMD@choo_ek@NPR @EpidemiologyLWW @UpshotNYT@afrakt Prescriber & systemic biases have caused poor management of pain in minority groups and we need to do better. But the pain and disability caused by an opioid first model of pain management should be explored, bc the morbidity and mortality across a population is likely worse.
@smithECGBlog @jonbcole2 @DavidJuurlink Nothing wrong with treating pain aggressively with multimodal analgesia. Bigger problem was medical community allowed profit driven pharma companies to convince them opioids had little downside. Huge marketing dollars to promote opioid first model of treatment is culprit.
Trump's proposed cuts to food stamps would affect:
- 400,000 people in Texas
- 328,000 in Florida
- 225,000 in Pennsylvania
- 176,000 in Washington State
- 165,000 in Michigan
- 118,000 in Wisconsin
- 97,000 in Georgia
Pass it on.
So many great endeavors; it would be impossible to boil it down to a single tweet. I want to welcome @AtriumHealth's CMC ED faculty into my other family: the #pinksocks tribe. Let's keep that passion for giving, caring, and empathy going strong! #AtriumHealthProud#WhyInformatics
