In a softball game that needed to be restarted in the top of the eighth inning, the Hampden Broncos defeated the Hermon Hawks 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The Broncos held the Hawks off the scoreboard after a one out triple by Hannah Waning in the top of the eighth, then setup the game winner in the bottom half. Aubrey Shaw led off with a single, was sacrificed to second base, and then scored on a Cat Facchini line drive to centerfield that was misplayed for an error to end it in walk-off fashion. Shaw led Hampden with two hits, and Facchini went the distance to get the victory in the circle allowing four hits with three walks and 15 strikeouts. The Broncos (10-6) will be the #5 seed in the Class A playoffs that begin next week. Kenzie Gallant had two hits for Hermon, while Mikelle Verrill took the pitching loss giving up one run (none earned) on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings. The Hawks (14-2) will be the top seed in the Class B playoffs #mesports
THIS it sports. A beautiful moment of sportsmanship on the diamond. Kellan Tilton, plays for Warsaw Middle School and he came to bat in the top of the 7th with 2 outs and SeDoMoCha holding a 12-7 lead in the Semifinal matchup.
A class act by both coaching staffs and the boys on both teams. The video will tell the rest of the story. #sportsmanship #baseball
