The world economy's dangerous dependence on oil has been starkly revealed during the US and Israel's war on Iran
There's still time to ask your MP to sign @HackneyAbbott EDM the Iran conflict, the US naval blockade and price inflation https://t.co/EhpgrOov01
Pleas for an increase in defence spending will be at the heart of tomorrow’s #NATO summit and loyal lieutenants in the UK media will be cheering this on. Meanwhile the 30% opposed to this are totally written out of the headlines 1/
The media/military complex not happy that Starmer has only promised £15 billion extra to the beleaguered military and their friends in the arms trade.
Also, shockingly he still hasn’t made clear which social programmes are going to be cut to fund the last £5 billion.
Security, defence and the implausible threat from Russia, constantly talked up by ministers, generals and arms companies, are now the main ways the state has of justifying attacks on social programmes, welfare and working class living standards in general in favour of still more weapons of war
Couldn’t agree more with Kevin on this. Austerity to fund arms spending and a war drive is being presented as a fait accompli. It is far from it - and opponents should be represented in the media and politics. Anti-war opinion is strong and equipped with a proven track record.

"We're here for peace, we're here to stop wars"
"All these wonderful people, it gives me hope"
We asked our deputy president @jeremycorbyn, along with delegates, what the international conference against war meant to them.
'Very scarily, climate change and wars are both hotting up – and the opposition to destruction of the planet and its populations has to be a collective working-class one. There has to be a fundamental change to the system...'

Never mind the cost-of-living crisis or the collapsing services he leaves behind, Starmer wants to be remembered as the man who ramped up spending on weapons
@ChrisNineham writes ahead of the release of the Defence Investment Plan
Last weekend we hosted 3k people in the iconic Central Hall to demand an end to militarism and war
The conference was an amazing show of solidarity and defiance. But it was also expensive!
Help us cover the costs. Pls donate 🔽

What I don’t understand is; how can these people be SO wrong, SO often, over a period (in her case) of Half a Century and no one ever takes them aside and tells them? Instead, they just keep paying her vast sums to carry on being wrong.
It’s insane!
Happy to have contributed this on the links between the English Revolution & the American Revolution of 1776 to Jacobin’s 250th American Revolution issue. There’s more than this 1k word piece, so a longer version, inc. American Levellers, is coming soon. https://t.co/g6BSxYEtlJ
