My 9yo just said, "Since no one else can do what you do exactly the way you do it, everything you do is perfect." And I'm going to be thinking about that for a while.
I'm on a quest to read every survival story I can find-- wilderness, apocalyptic, etc. This one is a classic of the genre. A woman wakes to find everyone else has vanished and she's the last living human. Haunting and quietly tense with deep things to say about modern life.
Whoa. Looking at this profile after a long time away. Got some serious blocking/muting to attend to. So many porn bots and *yawn* irate political clickbait.
Watched The Fellowship of the Ring with my son and was really empathizing with the characters grief after Gandalf fell from the Bridge of Khazad-dûm and then my son said, "Gandalf's last word was 'fools'."
"He stood at the window of the empty cafe and watched the activities in the square and he said that it was good that God kept the truths of life from the young as they were starting out or else they'd have no heart to start at all."
~ Cormac McCarthy
I wrote an obituary for my literary father, Cormac McCarthy for @Spectator.
Cormac McCarthy is gone — but his works remain brilliantly alive https://t.co/3RoPuWHFAl
