Last week, Tory MPs voted to give bankers a multi-billion pound tax cut so that they get even richer.

Today, the Tories are voting through a real-terms CUT to social security and pensions.

The Tories aren’t "levelling up” – they are punching down.

Today MPs vote on the uprating of social security benefits including the state pension by 3.1% from April. If inflation hits 7.25% in April, as predicted by the Bank of England, that will be a real terms cut in the income of millions of people by 3.9%.

I just voted against a motion imposing a real terms cut to social security.

Last week Tory MPs turned out in force to back a tax giveaway for bankers.

Tonight they're slashing support to some of the poorest in society.

On Monday, the Tories plan to vote through even more attacks on the living standards of some of the poorest people in our society.

Tory changes to pensions and social security payments will fall well short of soaring inflation, meaning real-terms cuts of around 3-4%.

Heartless.

There were over 7,000 UK Covid deaths this January alone.

Yet Boris Johnson is bragging that "we're coming out of Covid so fast" and Ministers keep going on the TV saying the Covid response is a great success.

Instead of chasing headlines, they should introduce proper sick pay.
