In the open plan office of a mid sized firm in Victoria Island affairs rarely started with grand confessions. They began with small ordinary things.

Tunde was a senior accounts manager married with two children in Lekki. Amaka was a project coordinator married to a man who worked in Abuja and only came home every other weekend.

They had worked on the same floor for three years without much more than polite greetings.

It started during the long harmattan of that year. The air conditioning was struggling and the office generator kept cutting in and out.

One afternoon while waiting for the system to come back online they found themselves alone in the small pantry.

Tunde offered her the last sachet of pure water. She accepted. They talked about traffic about how both of them were tired of pretending everything at home was fine. The conversation lasted only seven minutes but something shifted.
