If we glory in what we believe about God, and in the ways we in this church serve God, then this does not in fact amount to glorying in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:3) but it’s a way of glorying in ourselves (our religious selves) and it is idolatrous.
@douglaswils Rev Wilson, America is not and never was in covenant with God, though it's had lots of Christian influence. So CN is a theological mistake. Kuyper, Bavinck and the Neo-Calvinists are better guides on this kind of thing.
At last - Brock and Sutanto, Neo-Calvinism ch.4 show why the modern Reformed idea that conscious thought always precedes true emotional experience of God is rubbish.
Thanks be to God! After PMs characterised by incompetence, dishonesty or both, it looks like we might have a competent and honest one. And all the better - from an ethnic minority background.
Bavinck's book has recently been reissued - in the same translation by Henry Zylstra - as The Wonderful Works of God. The publishers were not allowed to correct the translation mistakes!
