Chris Campos and his dad built a mound in his backyard and worked like crazy to master his slider last off-season, and, it absolutely worked.
Campos is one of the most self-aware young pitchers I've seen pitch, and what I mean by that is he knows what makes him good, and he knows how to execute those sequences.
He was the starting short stop at Saint Marys and didn't pitch much at all, so his ceiling is just now starting to grow. ++ athlete, which is very important, as we see with guys like River Ryan, live arm, and as stated before, he's just getting started as a pitcher.
Campos has a similar backstory to Gavin Stone. He was told that he was too little to play D1 baseball, but he responded by going to a great baseball school and becoming an everyday player at a premier position.
The Dodgers saw his arm talent, athletic ability, and ability to absorb and apply information, drafted him, and then converted him to a pitcher.
Keep your eye on this guy, he's gonna continue to get better and better. #dodgers
Dodgers Daily Most Improved Award...Chris Campos!
Last night: 4IP 3H 1R 7K 1BB
There's been some ups & downs to his season like there are for every professional baseball player, but his entire season has seemed like one long run of momentum.
Where Campos made huge strides, IMO, is executing his locations, then also using his sequences to allow all of his pitches to work together.
Throwing 1000 MPH is great, but it's not the end all be all. Setting your pitches up to disrupt hitters' timing is a forever formula that will ALWAYS be effective.
That's Campos, IMO!
His fastball is firm, definitely firm enough, but he makes it play up by setting it up with his slider that takes different shapes & many times has different speeds. If you enjoy the art of pitching, and watching a pitcher pitch to their strengths, at ALL times, you'll enjoy watching Campos pitch. #dodgers

Shocker.. Chris Campos strikes guys out in pro ball too. The @Dodgers 7th round pick made his full season debut with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes last night!
. @Christopherc44 is the type of electric player that you go to in crunch time… the guy that will make the big play, get the big hit, and slam the door shut on the mound. No stage is too big… ice in his veins. Nobody I would rather go to battle with on the field. Congrats CC!
