I reviewed emails and letters that show a French developer offered to pay a Navajo environmental group to stop opposing his hydro plant. The nonprofit said no. Then, two local leaders with ties to the developer reached out to the group’s donors to complain https://t.co/mSWhykVh9U

Amid a battle over a border wall, ProPublica says DHS conducted 24-hour surveillance of Tohono O’odham tribal members holding a border prayer ceremony. The story says enrolled members were questioned outside the Nation about their ceremonial activities https://t.co/Iz8LyzL1kL

Martha Ham first tried to meet Ken Sleight in 1977. By then, Sleight was already a well-known river runner. He was the inspiration for the anarchist character Seldom Seen Smith in “The Monkey Wrench Gang,” a novel by author Edward Abbey. https://t.co/wzYgnOJKde

Pet peeve post.

If you get your news from people who read reporting by other people (and then don't link/share it) into the camera on social media then you're not being a news consumer. You're being influenced.

Go to primary sources. If not, you're helping kill journalism.

It has been 118 years since the Supreme Court ruled the federal government owes tribes water, but Native American communities in northern Arizona are still fighting for their rights to the Colorado River.

If you only read one news article by me, it should be this one. Grateful to my sources for sticking their necks out and passing along the documents necessary to write this

Exclusive: A French developer offered $10K to a Navajo nonprofit. In exchange, the nonprofit needed to end their opposition to his proposed hydro projects. After they refused, two people with ties to the developer reached out to the nonprofit’s funders https://t.co/4QJnGGoijg

“What I find a little shocking, and I do think crosses the line, is the threat to their funders, because they are unhappy with their stance and unwillingness to change their position, and then to go after their funding,” Heather Tanana, a Navajo law professor, told me.

Navajo President Buu Nygren told KNAU that he opposes Payre’s latest proposal over concerns about groundwater overuse. But the developer told me Nygren will be leaving office soon.

“We're going to talk to that new president,” he said.

Jani Ingram had been driving across the Navajo Nation for over an hour, looking for a remote water source.

Her goal was to find and test a well that one family was using near the community of Black Falls. It’s part of an effort to map safe drinking water https://t.co/0asZfE02en

A flash flood in the Grand Canyon set off a massive rescue operation. Around 82 hikers were rescued over the course of two days. Initially 15 people were missing, but last night that number dropped to one. I talked with NPR’s A Martinez about the latest: https://t.co/gQNU9EL7UQ

A flash flood in the Grand Canyon swept down a creek bed to the Colorado River, splintering bridges, demolishing houses and temporarily beaching boaters. Fifteen people remain missing or unaccounted for. My story for Morning Edition https://t.co/p3AcfLjU6F
