⚠️✍️A MAJOR NEW FINDING FROM THE NEPAL–TIBET DISASTER!
🛰️Satellite radar observations show that the mountain system was already moving just 7 days before the catastrophic collapse.
A preliminary analysis by Manoochehr Shirzaei and his team of Sentinel-1 radar data from the source area of the August 26 disaster detected measurable downslope deformation within the glacier/ice–rock system.
Movement reached approximately 10 mm/month in some areas.

That means satellite observations captured measurable deformation only 7 days before the disaster.
The colored points on the map represent surface deformation/motion detected from Sentinel-1 radar data. This is not a conventional satellite image, but a radar-based InSAR deformation analysis.
⚠️ However, this does NOT mean that the collapse was “predicted 7 days in advance.”
10 mm/month is not a “collapse threshold.” What matters is whether deformation is accelerating over time, and how it correlates with rainfall, temperature, ice melt, fractures and other monitoring data.
But this raises a very important question:
If satellite radar can detect millimeter-scale deformation in high-mountain glacier–rock systems, could we continuously monitor the world’s most dangerous mountain regions and identify developing instability before catastrophic collapse?

The colored points represent surface deformation measured from Sentinel-1 radar data. The colors indicate the direction and magnitude of movement along the radar line of sight; red–orange tones highlight areas with stronger motion signals, while blue indicates motion in the opposite direction. Combined with the terrain geometry, the researchers interpret these measurements as downslope deformation.

I used AI to map out the tunnels nearest to the Langtang Lirung mountain as the crow flies and came across 5 Chinese tunnels in and around the Kyirong area.
This is not to say the tunnels caused the collapse but it is interesting to see so many tunnels in the area.
New imagery from @vantortech confirms that the China-Nepal Rasuwagadhi border crossing has been completely destroyed, with the glacial flood completely scouring the valley floor.
At least 359 people are dead and nearly 1,000 missing, according to local authorities.
This was not simply nature at work. Years of reckless development in Tibet have made a fragile Himalayan ecosystem even more vulnerable.
The recent Tibet–Nepal floods have exposed the risks of Beijing’s relentless transformation of the Tibetan Plateau. For years, the CCP has blasted mountains, carved tunnels, built highways, dams and expanded massive infrastructure projects across one of Earth’s most fragile landscapes.
The Himalayas are among the world’s youngest and most geologically active mountain systems. They are not an endless construction site.
Tibet is also Asia’s Water Tower, feeding rivers that sustain nearly 2 billion people downstream. When Beijing destabilises the landscape, dams the rivers and alters watersheds, the consequences can cross borders.
